I pledge to be completely accountable publicly and to utilize the funds donated by friends for the sole purpose for which it has been donated and to make same public by all clear and visible means, so help me God, Amen.

THE STORY OF BABY CHIKAMSO, JOY E.

Miss Chikamso Joy E. is a 2 year old Child and victim of a Kerosene fire accident at the home of her parents in Port Harcourt, Rivers State of Nigeria. The fire incident happened on the 12th of July 2020 while in the company of her 8-year old senior sister. At the time of the incident, the 8-year old struggled to rescue her baby sister and in the process suffered more harm and later passed on. Both parents were out in search of daily bread for the family. They also lost their home in the ensuing inferno.

In August, during a routine rounds in the hospital, one of my seniors came across Baby Joy and her mum, Victoria and were told they were about signing against medical advice of having a Skin grafting done for Baby Joy. Without this surgery, baby Joy may suffer complications such as skin cancer in the future and with poor funding too, Baby Joy was at risk of poor management of her exposed body and may be widespread infection and she could lose her life.

Moved with pity, my Senior (asked to remain anonymous) moved on with me to begin raising funds among our colleagues. We raised over One hundred and twenty thousand Naira by August and these have been exhausted owing to the surgery and post operational care. In the course of all these, the parents of Joy had to borrow to pay for some things as well as rent a new modest shelter. From the hospital bills which we pledged to support, about N70,000 is left for her to be discharged. This fund will go into bed fees, care and medicine bills. More so, any balance will be handed over to Baby Joy's parents to help them settle a few debts and pick up life from there.

Hopefully, Baby Joy should be discharged today as soon as this money is raised. This post shall be updated to include when she is discharged and any developments.

We are very grateful at the support coming in and more anticipated.
